The First Ladies of Some of Hip Hops Most Notable Legends Began Their
Five-City Web-Series Tour California Style with a Champagne Brunch!
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, January 23, 2017— The Women Behind the Legends consists of a group of women that have created a sisterhood with each other based upon one commonality – being married to some of the earliest commercially recorded Hip Hop artists still active. Based upon that premise, the wives developed their own YouTube web series that gives the viewer a behind-the-scenes look at their daily lives and experiences of being married to a Hip Hop legend. The series has garnered much attention including talks for a reality show being pitched to Centric, OWN, A&E, Aspire, Bravo and WE TV networks during pilot season. Sunday, January 22, 2017, the Women joined media outlets, celebrity friends and fans for the ultimate meet and greet highlighted with bubbly from Les Jeux – the Champagne of Champions- their title sponsor!
There was a significant change in venue due to the song lyrics “It Never Rains in Southern California” not being true at all! The previous event space, Daphne’s Desserts, was changed and the breakfast relocated to the atmospheric offices of World Financial Group in Sherman Oaks because of weather conditions. Moreover, the old idiom ‘when it rains it pours’ was viscerally obvious when the events supplier neglected to show up with the outdoor tent to house the anticipated 250 guests expected to attend. The minor setback was not nearly enough to stop the momentum gained for the general love of Hip Hop and The Women Behind the Legend’s new movement. The event activation ran like clockwork on the precipice of the many marches for women’s rights that commenced the day before across the nation and the globe. The women supporting women sentiment of the marches was mirrored by the host, Queen of West Coast Hip Hop, Yo Yo, who spoke on the importance of women carving out a distinctive lane for themselves while being married to famous, successful men in the public eye. Tana Session, Lynette Blackwell, Keke Simpson and Cori Eastmond form the main cast of The Women Behind the Legends, and candidly shared some of the struggles and successes of being married to Hip Hop legends who have been in the industry for over 30 years. These wives, managers, mothers, and business owners truly represent today’s empowered woman. The champagne poured and the day continued with guests dining on all-organic buckwheat pancakes, chicken sausage and spinach quiche from Daphne’s Desserts. Nothing in hip hop culture is complete without the DJ and this soirée had one of the best. The award-winning DJ Scratch of EPMD who has supplied music for Jay-Z, Beyoncé and here recently, A Tribe Called Quest on their new number one album gave a most impressive performance. DJ Scratch wowed the crowd with his jaw-dropping skills on the turntables (supplied by Six Star DJ) spinning music apropos of the occasion – from Hip Hop Legends in attendance and not.
The VIP Swag Bags made a sensational debut with some pretty nifty gifts that included: Stressed Mommy Wine from California Vineyards specifically for The Women Behind the Legends and host, and their signature sugar scrub for lips for all attendees; Twila True gift cards valued at $500; personalized The Women Behind the Legends specialty cookies from Pastry Chef David Benton; Stitches by Reggie sewing services; facial spritzers from Jondy; and greeting cards from SEM Inspirationals. The goodies didn’t stop there! Luxe Therapy provided their patented Scalp Soother; Adwoa Design gifted Hip Hop from the Stitch Shop with handmade Run DMC, Jam Master Jay and Radio Raheem knit dolls for DJ Scratch; fashionable chokers by CARE from Nikki M; $100 gift certificates for
Valencia Medical Center aesthetic skin treatments and toeless socks for pedicures from Foot Huggies.
Funds raised from the sale of Tana Sessions’ books (wife of legendary Hip Hop artist Dana Dane and co-creator of The Women Behind the Legends) will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Hollywood where she sits on the board as the secretary and resident Human Resources expert. Transportation for DJ Scratch and Yo Yo provided by Xecutive Shuttle and Transport.
